StaffNathan Kirkpatrick, Veterinarian
Dr. Nathan Kirkpatrick (DVM) is a third generation veterinarian, the son of Dr. Jim and Wynnell Kirkpatrick, and grew up in Cokato, Minnesota with four sisters. Throughout his childhood and teenage years he worked at his father’s veterinary clinic and this is where he developed an interest in veterinary medicine, however his passion for animals came from the many pets he had as child. There were the pet cows Walter, Farley, Jack, and Sprat, Lena the pig, Clancy the rooster, Raider the raccoon, and Twitch the squirrel to name a few. The practical experience of growing up working at a veterinary clinic coupled with his love for pets made pursuing a career in veterinary medicine an almost inevitable choice.
Upon graduating from high school he attended the University of Minnesota where he completed a BS in Health and Wellness. Shortly after completing his undergraduate degree he applied to and was accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota in the fall of 2007. Dr. Kirkpatrick graduated with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in the spring of 2011 and began working part-time at both the Associated Veterinary Clinics of Cokato and Waverly and at Normandale Veterinary Hospital in Edina (MN). In the spring of 2012, after a year of gaining experience working with three seasoned veterinarians, Dr. Kirkpatrick transitioned to working full-time for his father at the Associated Veterinary Clinics of Cokato and Waverly.
Dr. Kirkpatrick believes that providing clients with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions regarding their pet’s healthcare is the most important part of his job. That is why he strives to take the time to understand his clients concerns about their pet, educate them about important issues, and work together with owners in partnership to achieve their goals. His professional interests include preventative medicine, internal medicine, dentistry, and surgery.
Dr. Kirkpatrick currently lives in Long Lake, MN with his wife Molly, two sons Wyatt and Jack, and West Highland White Terrier, McGregor. He is an avid runner and enjoys the challenge of running the occasional marathon. He also enjoys water skiing, gardening, hunting, fishing, cross country skiing, and spending time with friends and family.
